My arrears were growing and I wasn’t able to keep to my payment arrangements – as a single mum to two sons with learning difficulties, I suffer with anxiety and felt it was getting more and more difficult to cope.
After I was referred to the team I began to open up to my Support Officer, I knew I was at risk of losing my home if I didn’t get help. I explained my situation and the officer soon realised I was entitled to more in the way of benefits as my son’s Disability payment had stopped and I was living off a single sickness benefit.
They helped me apply for Personal Independent Payments (PIP) on my son’s behalf and after speaking with the Job Centre about my sickness benefit which had stopped, they also helped me claim PIP and Employment Support Allowance.
All the benefits were backdated and my rent arrears of £454 were cleared – I can’t tell you how much of a relief this was to me. The officer even worked with my eldest son to help him get a job; he’s been working two days a week at a local Blackpool company which has really increased his confidence and independence.
I really can’t put into words how much this has changed my life and I’m grateful to the team for their help and support.
