Thanks to our Highfield volunteer Isabel for this fantastic write up of the sessions below; we look forward to hearing more!
“We can’t believe our digital leaders programme has been running for nearly two years!
Every Tuesday evening, a group of our Highfield Helpers, our Academy’s volunteer team, walk over to Lostock Community Centre to help our clients develop their ICT skills. Our project began in order to tackle the issue of social isolation amongst the local community by helping them access the digital world and as a result has given the individuals that we work with many life changing opportunities. We are really proud that one of our clients has been able to get a job thanks to his newly found skills.
But it is much more than just learning how to use a computer. We have become more confident and have learnt how to work well with others. They are no longer just our clients, they are also our friends. We enjoy catching up and talking about our week, we even enjoy an occasional sing-song with Stella! Our new friends now join us at our academy’s community parties.
We are grateful to Blackpool Coastal Housing for helping our Academy to be able to do its best within the local community. We are really proud to be making a difference.”
