Community Learning Blog
Our Community Learning Programme continues its success at new venue Blackpool’s Seasiders Learning Centre. We recently heard from one of our learners, Elaine, who shared her experience so far…
My name is Elaine and I’ve been a member of BCH’s fantastic community learners programme for the past 2 years. I was very nervous when I first came to classes as I didn’t know anyone and wasn’t sure what was expected of me or if I would be able to do the work. 2 years on and I am still very much enjoying the classes. I have made some lovely friends and we all help and encourage each other during lessons.
This year has been a little different for us as we moved from our community centre learning base to Blackpool Seasiders. I’m still with my friends but we are in a much smaller class of 6 students so we can safely learn in a social distancing environment. Recently I have been unable to attend classes but I’ve had the opportunity to still be a part of the lessons by going online through Microsoft Teams. It’s meant that I can do the work alongside all my fellow students and I don’t fall behind. I’ve really enjoyed my online sessions and it’s boosted my confidence as I never thought I’d be able to access it but it’s not as daunting as I first thought.
As part of our usual English and Maths studies we will soon be doing some IT sessions to help us all get online and make use of the latest internet technology. During one of our sessions we had a lovely surprise when Sandy from BCH joined us online to say hello to everyone.
It’s been lovely to be able to be back carrying on our learning and I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t yet got their English and Maths qualifications to go ahead and have a go. It’s both great fun and you get to learn in a relaxed class either online or at Blackpool Seasiders.
