Update on town centre improvement works
Improvement work around the town centre is making good progress with the different projects to make Blackpool better on schedule.
Planned roadworks which began on 6 November 2017 are part of a huge scheme to transform Blackpool, leading to investment and jobs for local people, as well as creating a more attractive place to live and work.
Exciting changes that will be seen over the next few years include better public transport, modern streets, more places to shop and eat, a new IMAX cinema, new four and five star hotels and a conference centre.
Overview of Works
- Talbot Road works
The first stage of the project which involves moving utility pipes underneath sections of Talbot Road and its junctions in preparation for laying the new tram tracks will continue until March 2018.
- Dickson Road upgrades
Road resurfacing and repaving improvements are also being undertaken on Dickson Road.
- Cookson Street upgrades
Utility works are also ongoing on Cookson Street, which may mean some lane and footpath closures, but the road is still accessible.
Upcoming Temporary Closures
All of the work is being carried out in phases to minimise disruption so there will be some temporary closures but businesses in the town centre will be open as usual.
Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout to make journeys easier.
Please see the map below for the next phase of temporary closures.
